Lenovo India Launches 4 New Yoga Convertible Laptops, Starting Rs. 30,490

Lenovo on Wednesday launched four new laptops under its Yoga lineup in India, starting from Rs. 30,490. The convertible laptops launched are the Lenovo Yoga 300, Lenovo Yoga 500, Lenovo Yoga 3 14, and the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro.

As for availability, all the four Windows 8.1-based laptops are already available to buy from the company's own thedostore.com. In terms of pricing, the Yoga 300 costs Rs. 30,490, the Yoga 500, Yoga 3 14 and Yoga 3 Pro are priced at Rs. 71,490, Rs. 86,990, Rs. 1,15,990 respectively. The laptops displays can also be flipped 360 degrees and be used in laptop, stand, tent, and tablet modes.

The Yoga 300 (seen above) features a 11.6-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) LED-backlit multi-touch display and is powered by 64-bit Intel Pentium N3540p rocessor (4 cores, 4 threads, 2.16GHz base clock, up to 2.66GHz burst, 2MB cache) clubbed with 4GB of DDR3L 1333MHz RAM and Intel integrated graphics. Besides a 720p HD camera with single mic, the convertible laptop includes a 500GB HDD clocked at 5400RPM. The connectivity features of the laptop include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and HDMI. The device's audio is powered by Dolby Home Theatre technology and can run up to 8 hours on single charge. Notably, it does not feature an optical disc drive. It is powered by a 2-cell 30Wh battery, and will be available in a White colour variant.

The Lenovo Yoga 500 (seen above) features a 14-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) IPS multi-touch display and is powered by fifth generation 64-bit Intel Core i7-5500U processor (2 cores, 4 threads, 2.4GHz base clock, up to 3GHz burst, 4MB cache) clubbed with 8GB of DDR3L 1600MHz RAM and Intel integrated graphics along with the Nvidia GeForce 920M (N16V-GM) GPU with 2GB of DDR3L RAM. Besides a 720p HD camera with array mic, the laptop includes a 1TB SSHD. The connectivity features of the laptop include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI, and a headphone and mic combo jack. It will be available in Black and White colour variants. Like the Yoga 300, the Yoga 500 also does not sport an optical disc drive, and is powered by a 3-cell 45Wh battery.

The Yoga 3 14 (seen above) features a 14-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) IPS multi-touch display, and is powered by the same processor and RAM seen on with Yoga 500. It sports a dedicated Nvdia GeForce 940M (N16S-GT) GPU with 2GB of GDDR3 RAM. The device features a 720p HD camera and comes with a 256GB SSD. The connectivity features of the laptop include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI, and a headphone and mic combo jack. Powered by a 4-cell 45Wh battery, it too doesn't bear an optical disc drive, and will be available in Silver colour.

Lastly, the Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 3 Pro (seen above) features a 13.3-inch QHD+ (1800x3200 pixels) IPS multi-touch display and is powered by a 64-bit Intel Core M-5Y71 processor (2 cores, 4 threads, 1.2GHz base clock, up to 2.9GHz burst, 4MB cache) clubbed with 8GB of DDR3L 1600MHz RAM and Intel's integrated graphics. The laptop sports a 512GB SSD and bears a 720p HD camera. The device's audio section is powered by JBL and Waves Audio and can run up to 7.2 hours on single charge on its 4-cell 44.8Wh battery. It will be available in Champagne Gold colour. Unlike the other three laptops launched, the Yoga 3 PRO runs Windows 8.1 EM (for emerging markets).

Lenovo Launches New Ideapad, Z-Series Laptops, and ThinkPad 10 (2015) Tablet

Lenovo, besides launching its Google Chromecast rival, Lenovo Cast, also introduced two new Z-series laptops, an Ideapad laptop, and ThinkPad 10 (2015) tablet at its Lenovo Tech World event in Beijing, China. While the Lenovo Z41 and Z51 laptops will hit markets in June this year starting at $499 (roughly Rs. 31,800), the Z51 laptop with Intel RealSense 3D camera will be priced at $599 (roughly Rs. 38,200). The Ideapad 100 notebooks will reach the markets in the same month with a starting price of $249 (roughly Rs. 15,900). Lenovo ThinkPad 10 will be available this summer starting at $549 (roughly Rs. 35,000).

Both the Windows 8.1 Update-powered Lenovo Z41 (14-inch) and Z51 (15-inch) sport full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) resolution displays. The laptops can be configured with processors up to fifth generation Intel Core i7 and up to 16GB of DDR3L RAM. Both laptops have the option to include AMD R7 - M360 (in Z41) and AMD R9 - M375 GPUs over the integrated Intel graphics. As for the Lenovo Thinkpad 10 (2015) model (seen above), the Surface 3 competitor features a 10.1-inch WUXGA (1200x1900 pixels) resolution display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The hybrid tablet comes in two processor options - Intel Atom x5-Z8500 or Intel Atom x7-Z8700, coupled with optional 2GB or 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM. The tablet is also available in 64GB or 128GB inbuilt storage variants. Realtek ALC5672 with 1-Watt Stereo speakers power the audio department of the device.

The Windows 10-based Lenovo ThinkPad 10 (2015) sports Wi-Fi, Micro-HDMI, microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.0 and a USB port under the connectivity section. The tablet will also be available in 3G and 4G LTE connectivity options. A 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera is also housed inside the latest ThinkPad 10 tablet. It measures 256.5x177x9.1mm and weighs 617 grams.

A number of accessories are also available for the tablet such as ThinkPad Pen Pro, ThinkPad 10 Quickshot Cover, ThinkPad 10 Ultrabook Keyboard, ThinkPad 10 Folio Keyboard, and ThinkPad Tablet Dock.

Dell warms to AMD processors in new laptops, desktops

Dell’s PCs largely use Intel chips, but the company is once again warming to AMD processors for its new Inspiron laptops and desktops.

The Inspiron 5000 laptops with 14-inch, 15-inch and 17-inch screens contain AMD’s new A-series chips, code-named Carrizo. The laptops are now shipping worldwide even though the chips aren’t due to be announced until Wednesday.

The desktop-replacement laptops start at $449.99 for the 15-inch model, $599.99 for the 14-inch model, and $699.99 inch for the 17-inch model.

Dell once used AMD chips in a range of laptops, but slowly dropped them from product lines as the chip-maker dealt with quality and production problems. Hewlett-Packard has stayed loyal to AMD, but many other PC makers have dropped AMD’s chips over the years for not standing up to Intel’s chips in performance.

This is a good start for AMD’s Carrizo chips, which offers up to twice the battery life when playing video as the previous A-series chips, codenamed Kaveri. They also deliver up to 65 percent better graphics performance, but only nominal improvements in CPU performance.

During a short hands on, the Inspiron 15 5000 with a 15-inch screen booted in under 10 seconds, and the graphics shined during video playback. AMD will bring a new level of graphics to Dell’s mainstream laptops, most of which have Intel’s high-definition graphics, which are not as good. The PC had a quad-core A10-8700P CPU running at 1.8GHz with six integrated graphics cores.

The laptop included USB 3.0 and HDMI ports. A full sized keyboard with separate numeric keys made typing easy. With its optical drive, though, the laptop felt heavy.

The unit tested didn’t have a touchscreen, but higher resolution and touch screens are available on the Inspiron 5000 laptops.

The 14-inch and 15-inch models will also be available with Intel Celeron and Pentium chips code-named Braswell next month. Dell didn’t say if Core chips would be offered as an option on the laptops.

Dell showed other interesting PCs at Computex. If you want a 15.6-inch mainstream laptop that can also be a tablet, consider Dell’s Inspiron 15 7000 (pictured at top). It has a screen that folds 360 degrees to put the PC in tablet mode, much like Lenovo’s Yoga. Dell says the laptop offers nine hours of battery life with an Intel processor. It will ship in the U.S. later this month with prices starting at $529.99

Dell is also using AMD chips in the 23.8-inch Inspiron 24 3000 and 19.5-ich Inspiron 20 3000 all-in-one desktops. The PCs have high-definition displays with USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and ethernet ports. The Inspiron 24 3000 starts at $429.99 and is shipping in the U.S. and China, while the Inspiron 20 3000 will ship later this year starting at $329.99

HP launches laptops with Bang & Olufsen audio

NEW DELHI: PC giant HP India has launched new versions of its Pavilion 15 and the HP Omen laptops that feature audio experience powered by Danish luxury audio equipment company Bang and Olufsen.

According to a statement from the company, HP and Bang & Olufsen will custom tune each notebook for precise sound. The new range of notebooks have a dedicated audio island that isolates the sensitive audio circuits from other signals on the motherboard. The headphone jack limits the amount of metal parts to reduce ground noise to help further perfect the audio experience on the devices.

The new HP devices will include an audio control panel to allow customers to customize and enhance their audio experience based on preset configurations tuned by HP and Bang & Olufsen. Customers can choose from optimized presets or manually tune the sound to their liking.

The new HP Pavilion notebooks with B&O Play come with a Uni-body design with metal-like finish on the outside and gradient dual tone finish inside. The notebooks are equipped with full-HD screen (1920X1080p). The laptops are powered by the latest fifth generation Intel Core processors. The HP Pavilion 15 Notebook with the B&O play is available in the Indian market with a starting price of Rs 44,490.

The HP Omen Gaming notebook with Bang & Olufsen is designed specifically for hardcore gamers. The 15.6-inch screen laptop is constructed out of aluminium and HP has equipped the Omen with Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M 4GB gaming graphics and an Intel Core i7 Quad Core processor, along with a 1920x1080p Full-high definition display. The Omen features a customizable back-lit keyboard with six programmable function keys, weighs 2.12kgs and is 19.9mm thick. The HP Omen with Bang & Olufsen is available in the Indian market at a price of Rs 1,59,990.

Lenovo launches depth-sensing laptop and Surface 3 rival

If you're in the market for a mid-range laptop, Lenovo has revealed an interesting option at its Tech World event in Beijing. The 15-inch Z51 laptop has an Intel RealSense 3D camera that can be used for scanning, gaming or gesture control. If you're not into that gimmick, the Z51 and 14-inch Z41 have pretty decent bang for the buck, however, with 1080p displays, optional discreet AMD graphics, 16GB max memory and up to a Core i7 CPU. Both will arrive next month starting at $499, but on the off-chance you want a depth camera, you'll pay an extra $100 for the 15-inch model.

Lenovo also revealed the Ideapad 100 (above), a $249 laptop coming next month that could give potential Chromebook buyers pause. It's available in 14- and 15-inch sizes, with a 1,366 x 768 non-touch screen. Lenovo says it's aimed at buyers "who need only the most essential features" like web browsing, meaning the max configuration has a mere BayTrail-M N3540 CPU and 500GB of storage. Still, it'll let you watch a movie with four hours between charges, as long as you don't mind holding 4-plus pounds of computer on your lap.

Lastly, there's the 10-inch ThinkPad 10 (2nd generation) Windows 10 tablet pictured above. Lenovo's pitching that to business pros with features like a ThinkPad Pen Pro stylus, 1,920 x 1,200 IPS touch screen, Intel Atom quad-core CPU, up to 4GB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, LTE connectivity and 10 hours of battery life. Lenovo says it'll also bring "a full PC experience," à la Microsoft's Surface 3, provided you're willing to spend up on accessories. You can add, for instance, a folio keyboard for $110, an ultrabook keyboard for $119, a tablet dock for $129 and $70 4-way privacy film. That's on top of $549 for the tablet itself, which is $50 bucks more than a base Surface 3. Still, it's good to have options, and hopefully we'll get a better look to let you know if it's worth it. The ThinkPad 10 will be available August 2015.

The California-headquartered firm also updated MacBook Pro with Retina display with faster processors, doubled the memory in both its entry-level configurations.

MacBook Pro with Retina display features a stunning high-resolution display, an amazing design just 0.71-inches thin, the latest processors and powerful graphics and up to nine hours of battery life, Apple said in a statement.

"Apple today also lowered the starting price of the non-Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro, a very popular system with Windows switchers, by Rs 11,000 to Rs 78,900," it added.

The 13-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro is available with a 2.5 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.1 GHz, 4 GB of memory, Intel HD Graphics 4000 and a 500 GB hard drive starting at Rs 78,900 inclusive of VAT (Rs 75,000 excluding VAT).

Various models of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display are available in the price range of Rs 94,900-1,29,900 inclusive of VAT.

Similarly, the models of 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display are available in the range of Rs 1,44,900-1,79,900 inclusive of VAT charges.
