Samsung has yet to roll out the Android 5.1 Lollipop on its
2013 flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S4, although the Korean tech giant
did said in a statement last month that it will release the mobile operating
system update to the device soon.
But leave it to the techno-savvy developers to make life
easier for Samsung Galaxy S4 users as a custom ROM Android 5.1 Lollipop has
been developed by XDA developers for the device and now appears on some
handsets.
Not only that, the Android Pit detailed that popular
Resurrection Remix ROM has just been unveiled for the international Samsung
Galaxy S4 edition, with model GT-I9500, based on the latest Android 5.1.1
builds. Alongside the usual features that come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the
update also brings some gesture controls, theme chooser, and LED density
changer.
These two system updates came as a bit of surprise since
Samsung has not been very specific on when it shall be releasing the Android
5.1 Lollipop on the Samsung Galaxy S4. But the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is really
out of the question as the Korean tech giant never even talked about it at all.
But according to sources, Samsung will officially unveil the
Android 5.1 Lollipop real soon despite of the fact that the mobile operating
system was not approved for the Galaxy S4 Mini. Reports also have it that the
Android 5.1 Lollipop will only be approved for the Google Play Edition versions
of the Galaxy S4 but until Samsung officially released the updates, these are mere
speculations at this time.
Supports new Microsoft app
Samsung Galaxy S4 is among the five new Android devices to
support Microsoft’s new Hyperlapse application whose beta version was just
released to the Google Play Store last month
The Hyperlapse app enables users to create beautiful
time-lapse videos on Android devices with great ease, notes the Android
Authority.
When it was first released, the Hyperlapse app was only
compatible originally with a few Samsung devices, the Nexus 5, 6, and 9, the
Sony Xperia Z3, and the HTC One M8 and M9.
Preparation for roll out
Samsung has reportedly been preparing its devices to take on
the Android 5.1 Lollipop very soon. Some of these devices include the Samsung
Galaxy S4, the Samsung Galaxy S5, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. But the roll
out schedules would be dependent primarily on the plans or timetable of the US
and international carriers.
Although most users of Samsung Galaxy S4, the Galaxy Note 4,
and the Galaxy S5 are already using Android 5.0.1 Lollipop or Android 5.0.2
Lollipop for its mobile operating software, they are still complaining about
issues and there is certainly more work to be done. They are actually expecting
that Android 5.1 Lollipop would be the solution to their complaints.
